12:55pm: 6 years? Really
After 6 years of not posting a single thing, I decided to come back here and post. Why? I can't say.

Anyoe still out there?

6:41am: Down That Road
Down That Road

I ease myself down
back against a rough and dirty tree,
my knots and kinks
hard won, and well earned.
Dirt taste and heat shimmer
make me long for cool water,
but I have only small sips
that taste like tears.

I look ahead
to where I have long to travel,
the path straight and true
with less branches than before;
I do not bemoan the journey,
its pain, its sacrifice,
for behind me lay all of that
and much more.
Complicated by deaf ears
and bad choices,
many hurts
that I will not be the one to heal.

No, I do not dread the road ahead,
for it loves me when I do not
look back.
This morning, I did not even know
that this tree would be here--
meager shade a blessing asked for,
but not deserved.

Beside me grows something new,
a small weed, tough and ugly.
Or so it seems to me
until I compare it to my feet,
cracked and brown and filthy,
shoes long discarded.
Now the weed makes me laugh,
and I am grateful for the lesson.

So I rise, for it is time
to shoulder my pack and move along
though I still ache,
still thirst,
and the road ahead is long
for down that road there lies a Garden.

yes

Down that road there lies a Garden.

9:27am: Boondock Saints
Why do so many people like Boondock Saints? It had to one of the stupidest, most clearly unoriginal movies I have ever seen. The acting was pathetic-- even Willem Dafoe was mediocre at best.

Feh.

Congratulations! You're 146 proof, with specific scores in beer (80) , wine (150), and liquor (121).
All right. No more messing around. Your knowledge of alcohol is so high that you have drinking and getting plastered down to a science. Sure, you could get wasted drinking beer, but who needs all those trips to the bathroom? You head straight for the bar and pick up that which is most efficient.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 84% on proof

You scored higher than 89% on beer index

You scored higher than 99% on wine index

You scored higher than 97% on liquor index

Not bad for a guy that everyone he works with would swear doesn't drink...

11:19am: Left Behind
balsalighthouse's post about eschatology (which I had never heard of before, so thank you) made me re-think about the Left Behind series of books. Ironically, while I have been given pretty consistent criticism over my life by Christians who want to "save me" from D&D, I have never heard anyone criticize these books, which in my mind, trivialize and fictionalize things that we are supposed to believe are real. Always felt really backward to me. A disclaimer: I am admittedly very skeptical about anything that is marketed specifically to Christians. We are told so often what is not "right" for us, I think it makes us easy targets when something comes along that is "approved".

Am I making any sense here? I should have thought this out better before posting...

Geek update: In D&D my pacifist/ascetic cleric continues to survive!

6:18pm: Lame quarterly update...
The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Also, thank goodness the justice system worked this time.

1) My children being hurt really bad, like in a car accident.

*** That is my only fear-- I used to be afraid of motorcycles and roller-coasters, but I forced myself to do both until I was not afraid of them anymore

THREE THINGS I DON'T UNDERSTAND:

1) Why women ask your opinion when they don't really want it.
2) Why my religion thinks that killing someone on TV is okay, but a naked breast is not.
3) LJ drama.

THREE THINGS I AM WEARING RIGHT NOW:

1) Dress slacks
2) white t-shirt
3) BBQ sauce

3) it sleeps next to Brandi's

THREE THINGS I DON'T LIKE ABOUT MY BODY:

2) gray hairs in my nose
3) belly

THREE THINGS MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU:

8:35am: Travel
I haven't seen nearly enough of the U.S.

Yes, it would be really cool to travel to Europe, or Japan, or Vancouver, but I think there is a lot to be said for the good ol' U.S.A.

Even most of these states that I have "travelled" to I didn't actually do anything there-- 3 days in New Orleans and I never made it out of the stupid hotel. This map does not include airport stop overs, if it did, I have also been to Colorado, Texas, Minnesota, and Illinois, for a combined time of about 3 1/2 hours...
